چکیده

The commentary by Tatarnikov (2005) on the design and analysis of manipulative experiments in ecology represents an obvious danger to readers with poor knowledge of modern statistics due to its erroneous interpretation of pseudoreplication and statistical independence. Here we offer clarification of those concepts--and related ones such as experimental unit and evaluation unit--by reference to studies cited by Tatarnikov (2005). We stress the necessity of learning from the accumulated experience of the international scientific community in order not to repeat the errors found in earlier publications that have already been analyzed and widely written about. Design of A No-chatter Fractional Sliding Mode Control Approach for Stabilization of Non-Integer Chaotic ‎Systems‎

A nonlinear chattering-free sliding mode control method is designed to stabilize fractional chaotic systems with model uncertainties and external disturbances. The main feature of this controller is rapid convergence to equilibrium point, minimize chattering and resistance against uncertainties. The frequency distributed model is used to prove the stability of the controlled system based on dir...

Pseudoreplication is a pseudoproblem.

Pseudoreplication is one of the most influential methodological issues in ecological and animal behavior research today. At its inception, the idea of pseudoreplication highlighted important concerns about the design and analysis of experiments in ecology. The doctrine purported to provide a unified view of experimental design and analysis, wherein precise criteria could be used to assess manus...

Experimental investigation of the gyroscopic and rotary inertia effects on the chatter boundary in a milling process

Experimental examination of the gyroscopic and rotary inertia effects on the chatter boundary in a milling operation is the chief aim of this article. The equations of motion of the tool vibration are derived based on Timoshenko beam theory and Hamilton principle by considering gyroscopic moment, rotary inertia, velocity-dependent process damping and radial immersion effect. For a range of dept...

A robust optimization model for distribution and evacuation in the disaster response phase

Natural disasters, such as earthquakes, affect thousands of people and can cause enormous financial loss. Therefore, an efficient response immediately following a natural disaster is vital to minimize the aforementioned negative effects. This research paper presents a network design model for humanitarian logistics which will assist in location and allocation decisions for multiple disaster per...

Experimental Passive Suppression of the Regenerative Chatter Phenomenon by Variation of the Frequency and Amplitude of the Spindle Motor Excitation in Turning

The suppression of the regenerative chatter phenomenon in turning process via the variation of the frequency and amplitude of the spindle motor excitation is carried out in this research. A programmable inverter is employed for variable periodic excitation of the spindle motor. A set of turning experiments is designed and performed on a number of conical work pieces both in constant spindle spe...
